About Us

AQMEN is an established provider of training, capacity building and knowledge exchange activities in the area of statistical methods and data analysis. Initially funded between 2013-2017 by the Economic and Social Research Council, AQMEN is now based within the University of Edinburgh.

Industrial Training

A workforce with appropriate analytical skills is critical for organisations that intend to survive the big data revolution and to thrive afterwards. AQMEN has been funded by the UK Government to engage with industry in order to explore how universities can help to add skills to the current workforce and provide better training for future employees.

AQMEN are currently looking for organisations who are interested in working in partnership with us to discover their big data statistical and data analytical training requirements, and to develop and deliver training for their workforce. If you are interested in discussing this opportunity further please contact Heather Thomson, AQMEN Business Development Manager.

Researcher Training

Since 2009, we have delivered over 150 training courses and events to over 2000 academics, researchers and non-academics across the UK. These events have covered a broad spectrum of research methods, ranging from introductory data analytical methods through to complex statistical modelling techniques, with an additional focus on secondary data analysis, increasing the awareness and use of Scottish and UK social science data resources.

We are currently developing a programme of training activities for 2018, which will be released shortly. Examples of the areas that we offer training and capacity building in are listed below. Please contact us to subscribe to our mailing list and be notified of new opportunities, or to discuss any specific training requirements for you or your organisation.

AQMEN Research

In addition to training, between 2013 and 2017 AQMEN was funded as a research centre to develop a dynamic and pioneering set of projects to improve our understanding of current social issues in the UK and to provide policy makers and practitioners with robust, independent, research-based evidence to build a better future. Details and outputs from this project are still available online.
